Integrated Nonprofit Social Marketing Campaign Takes Silver “Two Minutes With Your Dentist Can Save Your Life”

Baltimore, MD (October 29, 2019)–Link Studio dba Astriata, a woman-owned creative agency, today announced that this initiative with the Maryland Department of Health received the Silver Davey Award for Integrated Campaign Not-For-Profit. The 15th Annual Davey Awards were announced by the Academy of Interactive and Visual Arts. With nearly 3,000 entries from across the U.S. and from around the world, the Davey Awards honor the finest creative work from the best small shops, firms, and companies worldwide.

Two Minutes With Your Dentist Can Save Your LifeAstriata developed, produced, and implemented a comprehensive social marketing communications plan and campaign titled “Two Minutes with Your Dentist Can Save Your Life.” The social marketing campaign supported participation in a pilot hypertension screening program by educating Marylanders about the vital role dentists can play in identifying undiagnosed hypertension, and reminded healthcare professionals of their duty to each patient’s overall health. The focus of the campaign messaging encouraged patients and dental professionals to begin a conversation about the benefits of hypertension screening in the dental setting.

To disseminate the message to the target audience, both traditional and digital marketing strategies were implemented, including television, movie theater and gas station advertising, press releases, media relations, local library banner exhibitions, digital display ads, geo-targeting, and social media. Social marketing materials to support this effort included animations for broadcast, theatre and online consumption, posters, postcards, prescription pads, and traveling banners that would circulate through local public libraries. The aim of the materials was to increase program awareness, ensure buy-in among dental staff, and educate patients about the importance of hypertension screening in the dental setting. Within a short period of two months, nearly four million impressions were made and the campaign was credited with saving one life.
