Animation for Online Exhibit Wins Bronze Digital Health Award

Animated Video Takes Home Award

Baltimore, MD (June 11, 2021)—Astriata today announced that its most recent project for the National Library of Medicine (NLM) was awarded a bronze Digital Health Award in the Digital Health Media/Publications – Video category. More than 700 entries in the Spring 2021 Digital Health Awards were evaluated for content, design, creativity, and user experience by a panel of esteemed judges and honor the world’s best digital health resources.

Bitten! Mosquito-Borne Disease & You, produced by Link Studio, the medical illustration/animation arm of Astriata, illustrates how mosquitoes transmit diseases, what diseases they carry, and how you can protect yourself from mosquito-borne threats. Mike Linkinhoker, MA, a board-certified medical illustrator, developed the script, visual concepts, and approach, and is the principal animator for Astriata.

“The recognition from Digital Health Awards is significant as it validates the efficacy of our user-experience-centered approach,” commented Mike. “Taking a subject that can overwhelm consumers, such as diseases transmitted by flying insects, and making it understandable and informative is at the heart of what I strive to do.”

Aline Lin, President and Creative Director of Astriata, echoed his comments. “Both videos in the online exhibit were designed to communicate scientific facts and educate without bias or fear. Bitten! and The Power of Memory: Fighting Disease with Vaccines and Immunization sought to enhance the exhibit by providing the public with facts and tips. We’ve enjoyed collaborating with NLM over many years to educate and engage the public in the social and cultural history of medicine.”
